Verify Cheatham County Supervision

Cheatham County parole and probation records answer different questions about a person living in the community after custody. Parole follows a prison release decision, while probation is imposed by a court and may begin without a prison term. To verify Cheatham County post-release supervision, first identify whether the case is a state felony or a local misdemeanor. Then match the person in the proper state search, court file, and assigned office. A release from confinement does not mean the sentence has ended. Supervision can remain active, change offices, end through discharge, or return to a hearing process after an alleged violation.

Cheatham Parole and Probation Compared

Parole and probation both allow a person to live outside a jail or prison while rules remain in force. Their legal sources differ. The Tennessee Board of Parole decides discretionary parole and related revocation or rescission matters. TDOC Community Supervision then supervises state parolees and people serving felony probation. By contrast, the Cheatham County General Sessions Adult Probation Office supervises misdemeanor probation ordered by that court.

The distinction controls where to verify a Cheatham County supervision record. FOIL is the right first source for a current or former Tennessee felony offender. The General Sessions case and local probation office are the better sources for a misdemeanor order. A local probation entry should not be described as parole, and a county office should not be expected to maintain the full TDOC felony file.

Probation can be direct or can follow a period of confinement. TDOC says a person placed on probation, or released from split confinement, must report within 48 hours. Parole may also include steps that must be completed before physical release, such as an approved release plan. A Board grant alone is not proof that the person left custody.

Parole
Conditional community release before a felony sentence expires.
Probation
Court-ordered supervision served in the community.
Discharge
The formal end of the active supervision obligation.
Absconder
A person alleged to have stopped reporting or left supervision without approval.
Revocation
A formal process that may cancel community supervision after a violation finding.

Verify Cheatham Post-Release Supervision

Begin with the sentence type, not a guess based on where the person lives. TDOC's Felony Offender Information Lookup, or FOIL, covers current and former felony offenders in TDOC custody or supervision. Search with a TDOC or TOMIS number when available. Otherwise use the full name, then compare date of birth, photo, offenses, and other identifiers before opening a record.

  1. Match the person in FOIL. Read Current Status, Supervision Status, Assigned Location, sentence dates, and the TDOC identifier together.
  2. If FOIL shows Parole or Probation, record the assigned location. That status supports physical release from prison into supervision, subject to update timing.
  3. Use the TDOC Field Office Directory to verify the current office. Do not infer assignment from a home address alone.
  4. For a Cheatham misdemeanor, obtain the General Sessions judgment and contact the local Adult Probation Office instead of relying on FOIL.
  5. If a status, date, or office conflicts, contact the listed supervisor or record custodian and ask for the current supervision or discharge record.

FOIL may also show a parole hearing date and result. Those fields help distinguish a scheduled hearing from supervision that has begun. An inactive result means the person is no longer active in the displayed TDOC system, but it does not state why. Read the dated sentence and release details. For a broader county release trail, the Cheatham County released inmate search explains how jail, court, and TDOC records fit together.

Note: A live prison or jail location signals custody; parole or probation signals community supervision, while inactive status still requires dated context.

Cheatham County District 80 Supervision

Cheatham County's state felony supervision office is outside Ashland City. The official TDOC directory assigns Cheatham and Dickson Counties to District 80 at the Charlotte field office. That specific routing matters. A nearby county courthouse address is not a substitute for the assigned state office, and the broader district office in Clarksville may not hold the day-to-day file.

TDOC District 80 Cheatham/Dickson

513 Spring Street
Charlotte, TN 37055
Phone: (615) 740-4766
Fax: (615) 446-4873

Call the directory-listed number to confirm the assigned office before visiting or sending documents. Residence, an interstate compact transfer, or a later reassignment can change where a person reports. FOIL helps identify the assigned location, but office staff hold the current operational information. The District 80 detail is distinct from Cheatham General Sessions misdemeanor probation at the county courthouse.

Cheatham Supervision Violations and Warrants

Supervision conditions are the rules stated in the release certificate, probation order, and instructions from the supervising officer. They may govern reporting, approved residence, travel, programs, or other case-specific conduct. A violation allegation does not itself prove revocation. Parole violation matters can move through Board warrant and hearing procedures. Probation violations return to the sentencing court's process.

No authoritative public TDOC statewide absconder list or Cheatham sheriff absconder list was found. FOIL's supervision status also cannot prove that no warrant exists. The sheriff FAQ says staff will not tell an anonymous caller whether that caller has a warrant and directs the person to appear with identification. Third-party warrant lists do not replace the court, sheriff, Board, or supervision file.

Important: An absconder label describes an alleged failure to remain in contact with supervision. Confirm any warrant or violation through the agency or court that issued it.

VINELink may provide a custody-status change when the relevant agency participates, but it is not a public warrant-clearing tool. A return to custody should be verified through the supplying agency and the associated hearing or court record.

Note: Interstate supervision can place an out-of-state case in Tennessee, so confirm the originating jurisdiction and compact assignment before interpreting FOIL.

Cheatham Parole Hearings and Results

The Board Hearings Division conducts proceedings in prisons, county jails, and other Tennessee locations. Hearing officers find facts and make recommendations. Board members make the decision. A recommendation may be adopted, changed, or rejected, so a scheduled hearing and a hearing recommendation are not release confirmation.

Tennessee Board of Parole hearing schedule and request guidance

The official hearing page documents the schedule-request route and cadence, but it does not prove that a listed hearing occurred or resulted in release.

Current state-prison and county-jail hearing schedules are updated weekly each Monday, or Tuesday after a Monday holiday. The Board instructs requesters to email BD.HearingSchedules@tn.gov. Confirm a listed date at (615) 741-1150 because schedules can change. FOIL supplies the public individual fields labeled Parole Hearing Date and Parole Hearing Result. No separate current public decisions database was located.

Results can include granted, denied, deferred, continued, reinstated, revoked, or rescinded, depending on the proceeding. A grant still may await a release plan, certificate, sentence check, program step, or resolution of a detainer. The Board's hearing materials say a final decision often is not made at the hearing and may take about 30 days. For the nonconfidential hearing file or final disposition, use the Board's records process with the name and TDOC number.

Cheatham Release Account Refunds

Post-release account questions follow a local split that is easy to miss. The Cheatham sheriff FAQ sends commissary refund questions to (615) 913-3552. It sends Securus telephone-account refund questions to (855) 273-7292. These are separate channels, so the type of balance should be identified before calling.

The same source does not publish a personal-property pickup process. Do not assume the account vendor handles clothing, identification, medication, or other property. For property that was stored during the Cheatham County Jail booking, call Jail Administration and ask what the release record or property receipt shows. TDOC's state release authorization separately includes checks for identity, property, money, clothing, and state identification, but that state form should not be presented as Cheatham County Jail's local procedure.

Note: A refund phone line can address an account balance, but it does not verify parole, probation, discharge, or physical release.

How Cheatham Supervision Ends

Supervision ends through a formal discharge, sentence expiration, court action, or another lawful case-specific event. Physical release and discharge are not the same. A parolee may be out of prison while the sentence remains active. A probationer may have completed confinement yet still owe a term of reporting. The controlling record comes from TDOC for state felony supervision or from the sentencing court and local probation office for a Cheatham misdemeanor.

Check FOIL's current status and sentence information first. Then ask for a discharge letter, final supervision record, or court order when the end date must be documented. Tennessee sentencing rules have changed over time, so offense date, judgment, classification, sentence structure, and later orders all matter. Tenn. Code Ann. ยง 40-35-501 governs much of release eligibility, while parole authority also appears in Title 40, Chapter 28. The Tennessee General Assembly code portal is the current-law source.

A person can also move to another state's supervision under the interstate compact. That is an administrative transfer of supervision, not a discharge. Confirm the originating jurisdiction and the office that now holds the active case before concluding that reporting has ended.

Keep the TDOC number, case number, and date of each check. These identifiers help the state office or Cheatham court locate the right record when a common name or a recent status change creates doubt. If FOIL and the court file appear to conflict, ask each custodian about its own record instead of merging the two statuses. A formal discharge document is stronger than an assumed end based on silence or a missing online entry.
