Cheatham Projected and Actual Release
A projected date is a calculated point in a sentence process. It is not proof of departure. For a Tennessee felony offender, the official TDOC term is Release Eligibility Date, often shortened to RED. RED is the earliest date at which an eligible sentence reaches the applicable release process. A parole decision can still be denied. Even after a grant, release may wait for a plan, certificate, program step, sentence review, or the clearing of a detainer.
TDOC separately uses Sentence End Date. That is the calculated sentence endpoint, but it also may not match the day a person walks out. Parole or determinate release may occur sooner. Another sentence, warrant, or detainer may keep the person confined or move the person to another custodian. Actual release requires a status or release record that states what occurred and where the person went.
A pretrial detainee presents a different issue. Without a sentence, there is no sentence-based projected release date to calculate. Bond, a court order, dismissal, plea, or transfer can change custody. Use the Cheatham court file and Jail Administration rather than applying TDOC felony percentages to an unsentenced booking.
Find a Cheatham Projected Release Date
Start by identifying the sentence system. TDOC's FOIL database covers current and former felony offenders in state custody or supervision. Cheatham County Jail also holds pretrial detainees and people serving local sentences, which FOIL may not cover. A transfer from the county jail into TDOC is not a community release, even if the local booking closes.
- For a state felony case, open the official TDOC FOIL information page and follow Search Now.
- Match the person by TDOC number when possible. With a name search, compare date of birth, photo, physical details, offenses, and sentence data.
- Read the exact labels, especially Release Eligibility Date, Sentence Begin Date, Sentence End Date, Parole Hearing Date, and Parole Hearing Result.
- For a local Cheatham sentence, obtain the judgment and jail-credit notation from the court clerk, then call Jail Administration for its current calculated date.
- After the expected date, confirm the actual event through the release authorization, jail booking/release sheet, FOIL status, or receiving agency record.
The official FOIL search form shows the state lookup used for this process.
The image identifies the state search starting point. It does not show a guaranteed release date for every result, and the details layout can vary by record.
For older records, TDOC accepts requests through its archived-record portal or by mail to Records Management. Provide the offender's full name, TDOC number, date of birth, and a focused description of the sentence or release document. Archive-search charges may apply, and TDOC directs requesters not to prepay.
Note: FOIL is a felony-system search, not a complete ledger of every person booked or sentenced in Cheatham County.
Cheatham Release Eligibility Calculations
Tennessee felony calculations begin with the sentence effective date and the judgment's sentence structure. Jail credit, consecutive or concurrent terms, classification, offense date, sentence length, and offense-specific rules all matter. TDOC is the official timekeeper. The Board does not create an eligibility date just because a private calculation reaches a percentage.
Tenn. Code Ann. § 40-35-501 contains the main release-eligibility rules. Traditional classifications have included 20 or 30 percent for especially mitigated offenders as stated in the judgment, 30 percent for Range I, 35 percent for Range II, and 45 percent for Range III, subject to later amendments and offense-specific overrides. Eligible felony terms of at least one but no more than two years can follow a separate determinate-release path after the statutory point and notice process.
Sentence-reduction credits fall under Tenn. Code Ann. § 41-21-236. TDOC ties credits to conduct and program participation, and disciplinary loss can extend RED. Credits do not affect every sentence in the same way. Some may affect eligibility without shortening the legal sentence expiration. That is why the record's exact date labels and the controlling offense provision must be read together.
Note: Credit totals can change during confinement, so an earlier FOIL date should be checked again with TDOC before relying on it.
Cheatham Release Dates and 85 Percent
There is no universal Tennessee rule that every incarcerated person serves 85 percent. The statute contains offense- and date-specific systems. Some listed offenses historically required 100 percent service less permitted credits, with credits unable to reduce service below 85 percent. Later truth-in-sentencing provisions for listed offenses committed on or after July 1, 2022 can require 100 percent service without sentence-reduction credits reducing that term.
Other subsections use an 85-percent eligibility structure with a limited credit effect. Many sentences follow different percentages or rules. The conviction offense, offense date, classification, sentence length, judgment, and amendment dates decide which part applies. A general 85-percent estimate can therefore be badly wrong. Use the current Tennessee statutory text, then confirm the calculation with TDOC Sentence Information Services or legal counsel for that particular sentence.
RED must also remain distinct from a parole hearing. TDOC calculates and certifies eligibility. The Board then decides whether discretionary parole should be granted when that process applies. A hearing date does not turn RED into a gate date.
Why Cheatham Release Dates Change
TDOC's blank official details template warns that dates may change as more court documents arrive. Changes can also come from events inside custody, later court action, sentence aggregation, or a new hold. Each factor affects a different part of the calculation or the physical release process.
| Factor | Possible effect | Best confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| Corrected judgment or late court document | Changes sentence terms, credit, or structure | Sentencing court and TDOC calculation |
| Newly earned or lost credit | May move RED where the statute permits | TDOC sentence and disciplinary records |
| Consecutive or concurrent sentence update | Changes the combined term | Judgments and FOIL sentence lines |
| Parole action | Grant, denial, deferral, revocation, or rescission affects release path | FOIL hearing result and Board disposition |
| Warrant or detainer | May block community release or cause transfer | Release authorization and receiving agency |
| Release-plan or program requirement | Can delay physical departure after a grant | TDOC Community Supervision and facility records |
A detainer is a request or authority to hold or transfer someone for another agency. TDOC Policy 511.03 even uses “release by detainer” for a handoff to a Tennessee county facility. That wording describes a custody transfer, not a return to the community.
Cheatham County Jail Release Dates
A local jail sentence needs a local calculation. The sheriff FAQ directly instructs people with remaining-days questions to call Jail Administration at (615) 792-2042. First obtain the judgment and any jail-credit notation from the Cheatham court clerk. Then ask jail staff for the date currently calculated from that order and whether any other hold affects departure.
Misdemeanor sentencing under Tenn. Code Ann. § 40-35-302 generally makes the defendant responsible for the full sentence, subject to lawful pretrial and local jail credits. Local credit provisions may depend on the program. Do not apply FOIL's felony classifications or a general percentage to a Cheatham misdemeanor.
No Cheatham-specific written good-time policy, public date worksheet, fixed weekend practice, or rule promising Friday release when a date falls on Sunday was found. The jail operates continuously, but round-the-clock custody does not prove when calculation staff act or when a specific release is processed. Those points remain unknown until the jail confirms them.

Cheatham Parole Date Checkpoints
A release eligibility date can lead to a parole process, but it does not schedule or decide that process by itself. The Tennessee Board of Parole conducts hearings for eligible adult felony offenders in state prisons, local jails, and other Tennessee locations. A hearing officer develops facts and makes a nonbinding recommendation. Board members may adopt, change, or reject it. The result may be granted, denied, deferred, continued, revoked, reinstated, or rescinded, depending on the type of hearing.
The Board's current hearing page says state-prison and county-jail schedules are updated weekly each Monday, or Tuesday after a Monday holiday, and are available by email from BD.HearingSchedules@tn.gov. A schedule can change. Confirm a listed date at (615) 741-1150. FOIL's matched details record provides the public fields labeled Parole Hearing Date and Parole Hearing Result.
A hearing result still must be kept separate from actual release. Board Operations handles final dispositions, and official hearing material says a final decision may take about 30 days. After a grant, TDOC still checks the sentence, release plan, required programs, certificate, and detainers. If any of those steps remain open, the person may stay in custody past the hearing or decision date.
Eligibility also depends on the actual judgment. Tenn. Code Ann. § 40-35-501 uses the offense, offense date, sentence length, classification, and special exclusions. TDOC must calculate and certify that point. A date reached through outside arithmetic does not compel the Board to place a case on the schedule.
Confirm a Cheatham Release Date
After the expected date, confirm the event rather than the forecast. A county booking/release sheet should state when Cheatham custody ended and whether the result was bond, time served, court-ordered release, or transfer. A state release authorization can show the actual date, releasing official, destination, and whether a detainer controlled the handoff.
FOIL may later show parole, probation, inactive status, a location change, or release information. VINELink can add a prospective custody alert when the correct participating record is found. The Cheatham County VINELink check explains why Cheatham jail participation must be verified before relying on an alert. Neither a missing result nor a forecast proves physical release.
When the sources disagree, use the office that created the decisive record. Jail Administration controls the local release entry. TDOC controls the state sentence calculation and release authorization. The sentencing court controls its judgment and later orders. A receiving agency confirms a transfer.
Record the date when each source was checked. A later TDOC update or court filing may resolve an earlier conflict.
Note: The strongest release proof joins the actual date and disposition with a destination, not merely a vanished custody listing.
